South Carolina’s Maine Mez is a dynamic and compelling Music Artist who began his exciting musical voyage of artistic discovery in 2016. In 2020 he became more serious about his passion for music and his artistry.
Originally influenced by 50 Cent, Juvenile and the Hot Boys, it was actually the eccentric wordplay and musical stylings of Lil Wayne which brought Illi’s attention to hip-hop. After listening to Wayne’s “Da Drought 3” mixtape and the subsequent year’s “Tha Carter III” album, Maine Mez began to consider branching into the rap game on his own.
No stranger to struggle and sacrifice, this super star in the making grew up sharing a cramped two bedroom apartment with eight other family members and even spent months living out of his vehicle. Through it all, he says, leaning on hip-hop as a means of self-expression helped to get him through it. At one point Mez didn’t think he’d be able to rap again, when he broke his jaw working out for football. But he perseveres — and what started with school talent shows and recording with a dying laptop in the back seat of his car has grown into a full time pursuit as Maine Mez began to realize his potential.
