“Straight Up From The Teacup" — Etiquette In The Modern Era - Toni Dupree Keeps It Real (As Seen On TV!)
Toni Dupree is clearly a star.
The Houston, Texas based best selling author (Straight Up From The Teacup, Whose Fork Is It Anyway), local business leader and founder of Etiquette And Style By Dupree has literally been quoted in media around the world — from Readers Digest to The Chicago Tribune to Australia’s biggest 24 hour streaming news network to The Houston Chronicle this year.
The incredible career trajectory of this superstar proves that etiquette — far from being a stuffy concern from yesteryear — is actually integral to every aspect of life in 2020.
Dupree, an educator by trade before moving into the world of etiquette training, public speaking and now major international media, often does corporate workshops focusing on communication and kindness in the workplace. How people treat each other at work, where people spend a significant amount of their day has a deep impact on people’s mental health and quality of life- and that remains true even in a post covid world where many of those work interactions are virtual.
But when you look at the television segments (Houston, Texas and Melbourne, Australia) and countless magazine and newspaper articles Toni has been featured in across North America, the picture becomes even more clear.
We need to start thinking a whole lot more about how we treat each other.
Toni has been quoted in media on topics as diverse on the etiquette of travelling with friends and of staying at airbnbs, the etiquette of shopping, covid etiquette, wedding etiquette and even the etiquette of cheating …and so much more.
She has even been asked to comment on what etiquette rules don’t apply anymore!
But Toni isn"t there to wag her finger and tell us what we’re doing wrong — there is a heavy dose of empowerment in her message too.
“It’s all about how you recover” if you make a misstep, she says, telling her audience we all make mistakes and we shouldn’t necessarily beat ourselves up over them. To prove her point, she recently agreed to appear on Fancy Free, a podcast where accomplished, high profile women from across industries share embarrassing stories — though it’s hard to imagine this poised and professional leader making any missteps!
When asked to comment on the work she does today, Dupree says :
“When I was a little Twinkie I used to read mags like; Seventeen, CosmoGirl, Cosmopolitan and Harper’s Bazaar. I remember this like it was yesterday— getting into those juicy articles about anything and everything womanly written by “This expert” and “That expert.” In my room with door closed, thinking “What do you have do to be an expert because I want to be that!”
These days, Toni is — literally- living that dream.
